BIOGRAPHYBodyworker, yogateacher, and workshop facilitator
Kari Couchman has studied, practiced, and taught bodywork and offered therapy for over 18 years in Europe and the USA. She runs Kropp og Sjel (Body and Soul) where she offers individual treatments and workshops in yoga, holistic massage, CranioSacral therapy, Integrative bodywork, and therapeutic excercises. She calls her work Integrative Bodywork because it is a synthesis of the various therapeutic techniques which she uses, so that each client receives the treatment she/he needs. She draws upon her background from her studies in movement repatterning (Syntropy), CranioSacral therapy, various massage techniques, Kinesiology, yoga and postural analysis (Egoscue Method). She works in conjunction with doctors, chiropractors, psychologists, dentists, and Naprapats. A structurallyl balanced body is a vital body, which allows the free flow of life force! She has taught at the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage in Hawaii, in subjects ranging from pathology and treatment of common conditions, massage techniques, therapeutic movements, mind/body techniques; and she was a clinic supervisor. She keeps studying new techniques in order to help her clients and her own students to explore their potentials. Kari has practiced yoga since 1988 and yoga is an integral part of her life. She has studied many forms of yoga internationally from New York to India like: Anusara, Acroyoga, Aerial yoga, Ashtanga vinyasa, Iyengar, Kundalini, and Bikram. She had deepened her studies in Anusara yoga and taken teacher training and therapertics with Jorden Bloom, and taken immersions and workshops with Jonas Westring, Desiree Rumbaugh, Christina Sell, Darren Rhodes, Chris Chavez, and John Friend. She has also taken teacher trainings in Ashtanga with David Swenson, Forrest yoga with Ana Forrest, Prana flow with Shiva Rae. She is continually taking Iyengar workshops with teachers like Claus Witting and Monica Haar, and is always evolving with new classes like yoga for seniors and aerial yoga. Her teaching is inspired by all the yoga traditions she has studied. In order to respect and honour each person's unique abilites, talents, and limitations, she focuses on individual accomodations, saftey and alignment, where breathing is more important than postures. She is Yoga Alliance certified, 500 hours. For Kari yoga is not perfecting the body or the pose, but rather to experience oneself in the moment. |
